Stress Reduction Through Mindfulness Program

An eight week Stress Reduction Through Mindfulness program is currently being offered to McMaster medical school students as part of their self-care program. We meet for two hours each week and each session is focused on developing skills of being present and attentive. Participants are invited to learn the skills of 'paying attention' and awareness then translate that learning to the challenging and sometime unsettling environment of medical training.

From Paul C. Fitness Trainer, Hamilton

Hi  Dr  Singh,
It has been  half  dozen  a teachers  since  I attended your program ‘The Healing Voyage’  but  the  manual  we  were  given  is  still  one  of  my  most  valued  resources  and it has  helped  me  in  helping  others now.

The  close  to  40  years  of  hard  core  extreme  training  continued  to  eventually put me  on  disability. However, yoga and meditation  has  made  me  a  better  person  as  well  as  worked  part  of  my  disability (double  crush  syndrome)  so  well  that I  didn’t  need critical  neck  surgery  for  a  disc  replacement  in  my  neck, that  I  was  on  a waiting  list. My  circulation  has  probably  worked  back  to  90%  of  what  it   was  and  this  was  done  using  inverted  modifications  along  with  at  least  90  minutes  of  asanas , meditation and pranayama.

Rewind, Relax, Revitalise

We carry a lot of stress in our body these days. This stress may start to manifest itself in  various aches and pains and, worse, may even bubble into serious diseases if left alone to exacerbate. Spending sometime in body scan or yoga nidra can be greatly helpful in resetting the body's rhythm and allowing it to ward off the negative consequences of stress. Following recording is meant to instill deep relaxation and is driven from traditions of yoga nidra, the yogic sleep. Play it or download it to your portable device to harvest the benefits of being with your body and developing a deep awareness of body sense. If you feel that it helped you, please take a moment to drop us a line here.

Sport Psychology Off the Field

The world of sport psychology may be able to help you on the job.

Just as an athlete might mentally prepare for a sports event, so you can rehearse in advance what you're going to say to someone and how to say it, as well as anticipate questions that might come up and how to answer them. Athletes use visualization like this to reduce stress, build confidence, and ultimately get a better performance.
